READ BY THE SEA LITERARY FESTIVAL – I WAS THERE!

I was thrilled to head to Pictou, Nova Scotia, in June to connect with young readers at the annual Read By The Sea Literary Festival.

I read from AFTER THE WALLPAPER MUSIC and LARKIN ON THE SHORE, sharing the stage with Basil Sylvester for the kidlit-oriented OnWords program. The day kicked off with the WordPlay program, featuring Kevin Sylvester (yes, Basil’s dad and writing partner) and Joan Marie Galat. The following day, the festival’s adult program included authors Myna Wallin, Charlene Carr, Vernon Oikle, and David Alexander Robertson. Also joining the fun were MC Danielle Metcalfe-Chenail and workshop leader Jennifer McGrath.

For me, it was a return to a place I know and love – the North Shore of Nova Scotia along the Northumberland Strait. I spent many summer months there, and it’s where my YA novel LARKIN ON THE SHORE (Red Deer Press) is set, in the imaginary town of Tuttle Harbour (aka Pugwash).

I had so much fun being part of this festival in its first season in Pictou after years of delighting readers and book fans in River John, just down the shore…
